EXPEDITION OVERVIEW

We would like to welcome you to an unforgettable adventure off the beaten track in Northern Tanzania. This tour will take you to some of the most remote and fascinating places in the region, where you will meet the Hadzabe and Sukuma tribes, experience their traditional way of life, and learn about their rich cultural heritage. You will also explore the stunning Lake Eyasi and witness the incredible wildlife in the Maswa Game Reserve and the Serengeti during the Great migration.

During this tour, you will also have the opportunity to explore the Ngorongoro Highlands, which is home to some of the finest coffee plantations in Tanzania. You will get to visit a local coffee farm, meet the farmers, and learn about the entire coffee-making process, from picking and processing to roasting and brewing. This experience will give you a unique insight into the local culture and economy, as well as the chance to sample some of the best coffee in the world.

Co-founder of New Style Publishing, a photo book imprint based in Amsterdam, and webgraph, a multi-disciplinary creative studio based in Miami, he helps startups and established organizations create and improve physical and digital products, speaks at events including SXSW, WPPI, and the Mobile World Congress, and travels the world on photographic commissions for select clientele including Alfa Romeo, American Express, Apple, Barbour, Courvoisier, Ducati, Land Rover, The Macallan, Nissan, O2, RedBull, Sony, Starwood Hotels, Travel + Leisure, Williams Martini, and more.
Always looking for ways to share what he's learned, Dan leads workshops with Leica Akademie, Polaroid, Kodak, and The Photographers' Gallery, is a recurring juror for the International Photography Awards, and has been a WPO Academy member since 2016.
A published author and guest expert for The Guardian, The Telegraph, and The British Journal of Photography, Dan’s first photographic book, Koya Bound (Winner, AIGA Cover Design Award, 2017), was published in 2016 by Pre/Post in Japan.


Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Pick up at the airport and transfer to your lodge. Briefing and Q&A about your expedition. Meet your tour leader, any questions/concerns - our team will be here to assist you.

Hot lunch in Karatu or Mto Wa Mbu ( the nearby village ). Proceed to Mangola, a small town located on the shores of Lake Eyasi. Check into your camp. And then walk to the Lake shore for sunset, boat with local fishermen.

In the early morning drive to Yaeda Valeey and up the hill to meet Hadzabe people ( hunter-gatherers ) for cultural experience. Sundowner up the hill with a scenic view on lake Eyasi.

Early morning go hunting with hudzabe hunter-gatherers, experience the incredible forest and see how Hadza hunt with their bows and arrows. Hunting is part of their culture, it is a great chance to connect with nature and understand how these people live in harmony with nature, how they feel the forest and navigate in their environment.
After lunch, drive to Matala (Southern tip of lake Eyasi) to introduce yourself to Sukuma people. The camp will be ready for you and set up in the middle of savannah.
Accommodation: mobile camp. The camp is not luxury but equipped with beds in tents, portable shower and toilet and a mess tent for dining.

In the morning we will visit Sukuma people. Expect to see their incredible dancing and singing, part of their regular routine. Interact with people and follow them in their daily activities of fetching water, collecting fire wood, cooking and exchange conversations with them. These people rarely if at all see any tourist in this remote area.

In the early morning, drive to Maswa game reserve. This is a remote road and never used by tourist cars, so expect some bumpy rough drive. Once you arrive at Maswa game reserve check in to your ptivzte camp. And proceed with the afternoon game drives.

Full day in Kusini. Game drives in the remote Southern serengeti, walking safaris, night time safaris.

Take a plane from Maswa airstrip to Kogatende ( Northern serengeti ) to catch the migration.
