EXPEDITION OVERVIEW

This one-of-a-kind tour combines some of the most spectacular sites in Tanzania. The route will take you through Seronera Valley - the heart of Serengeti with abundant wildlife. Known as The Big Cat Capital of Africa, the Seronera is rich in lion, leopard and cheetah as well as many other species. You will see the legendary Ngorongoro Crater in all its majesty with the large mammals, such as buffaloes, the endangered black rhinos and elephants, to name a few. You will stay on the shores of the stunning Lake Natron with thousands of Flamingos and Pelicans and a still active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai in the background. You will walk around the lake and to the streams and waterfalls along the escarpment of The Great Rift Valley. You will visit Lake Eyasi - the shallow alkaline lake with mind-blowing sunsets and small local fishermen's villages. You will pass by colorful markets and will enjoy interactions with locals.

This trip has it all for an adventurous, curious and open-minded traveler who wants to see the interior of Tanzania and yet still keep all the comforts of home. Throughout your stay, you will be accommodated in a selection of comfortable classic safari camps away from the crowds, which will give you the opportunity for an intimate connection with nature and an ultimate bush experience.

If you look at combining adventure, landscape, wildlife and some cultural experience, this is the perfect route for you!

Our driver will be waiting for you at the airport to transfer you to your lodge in Arusha before your safari begins the following day. Upon arrival at the lodge, a member of our team will meet you for a briefing and Q&A relating to your safari.

Overland transfer to lake Natron. Be ready for a 5-hour drive with half of the way on a rough road. Stop at Engaruka Village for a picnic lunch. Engaruka village lies at the foot of the rift valley escarpment and is a great place to experience the Maasai culture in all its authenticity. In addition to this, Engaruka is known for the ancient settlement ruins that display the advanced knowledge of irrigation technology. The settlements mysteriously disappeared some hundreds of years ago, making archaeologists return again and again to discover the mystery of the Engaruka ruins. After lunch proceed to Lake Natron for dinner and rest.

Full day in Lake Natron with activities of your choice: visiting Engaresero Village (the Maasai settlement), hiking in the gorge to see the magnificent waterfalls, enjoying the lakeshore during the sunrise and sunset hours…The choice is yours! Lake Natron is one of the most serene and famous lakes in Tanzania. The area around Lake Natron is deserted with a hot climate due to its lowest point in the Tanzanian Great Rift Valley. Lake Natron is a shallow sliver of highly alkaline water that attracts millions of flamingos every year between August and October. Zebra and giraffe are common, and other wildlife includes wildebeest, zebra, fringe-eared oryx, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle, and even the odd lion and cheetah.
The Natron skyline is dominated by a still active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai, which rises 2km above the rift valley floor. Upon request, we organize the volcano climbing during the night (the daytime climbing may be impossible due to high temperatures).

Extra activity: Scenic flight over Lake Natron.
Breathtaking flight over the lake and Ol Doinyo Lengai Volcano is a fantastic addition to the trip. To be booked upon request.

In the morning prepare to drive a long way towards Serengeti National Park with a lunch break. It may take up to 5-6 hours on rough roads (depending on the road condition). You will be rewarded by a variety of scenic views along the way. In the afternoon, check into your camp for a sundowner and dinner.

Central Serengeti is the heart of the park where you’ll find the best game viewing at any time of year. Central Serengeti is the site for exhilarating hot air balloon safaris, which we offer in addition to the game driving. This activity can be booked at extra cost.
The landscape of Central Serengeti features a vast range of various ecosystems and includes grasslands, acacia forests and seasonal streams. Central Serengeti is home to many different species and offers quintessential African scenery. Seronera is home to an incredible population of hippos due to the Retina Hippo Pool, which is inhabited by massive numbers of hippos. You may also see large herds of giraffes, antelopes, elephants and zebras, and big cats like lions, leopards and cheetahs remain in the area regardless of the season.

Prepare for a long drive from Central Serengeti to Karatu town. Karatu is a small colorful town on the edge of Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a big marketplace with rainbow stalls. Karatu is an ideal growing area for coffee because of the mineral-rich volcanic soil and the altitude of the northern highlands. We will stop at a cozy coffee plantation lodge located in the beautiful green countryside. If you are interested in the coffee production process, you are welcome for a guided tour around the coffee plantation in the area.

After breakfast, be ready for a very scenic drive down to the floor of Ngorongoro Crater. If you ever tried to imagine what The Garden Of Eden looked like, Ngorongoro Crater is probably a good example. This geographic wonder is referred to as The Cradle of Mankind. Ngorongoro Crater offers something that none of the National Parks can - one of the most unique and extraordinary landscapes. It is the world’s largest inactive and unfilled volcanic caldera created by a volcanic explosion over two million years ago. Ngorongoro Crater is a true paradise for wildlife due to its permanent water source and the green nutritious pastures on the crater floor all year round! There are an estimated 30,000 animals ranging from leopard, cheetah, elephant, and hyena to warthog, buffalo, and impala. On top of that, the Crater is one of the best places on earth to see the endangered black rhino and black-maned male lions.

Overland transfer to Lake Eyasi. In the morning be ready for a couple of hours of the rough road towards Lake Eyasi. Lake Eyasi is an off-the-beaten-track landmark in Tanzania. This fascinating place is rarely visited but really worth attention due to the magnificent scenery around the lake.
Lake Eyasi is a shallow and salty lake. The size of the lake varies greatly depending on the season. During the dry season, the animals are forced to share the little water left, which makes it easier to spot wildlife. And the wet season, with the water level, largely increasing, attracts the hippos. The landscape of Lake Eyasi is peculiar, mostly sandy and dry, lined with cactus trees (Euphorbia ingens), umbrella thorn acacia, and sandpaper bush, but with patches of tropical vegetation, such as palm trees. During sunset hours, the lakeshore turns into one of the most beautiful places in East Africa. During your visit to Lake Eyasi, you will stop by a local market, visit the fishermen's village, enjoy a boat ride in the lake, and see the scenic sunset.

Overland transfer to Arusha (approximately 3 hour drive); check into your lodge for dinner and rest.

End of arrangements.
